Day 41 - Crazy Paths Crossing

July 29th
20 Somethingish Miles
Past Gucci Spring

Had really crappy breakfast at the lodge and made a sign for hitching back to the trail that read 'NOT RAINBOWS CDT Hikers To Trail' due to the national rainbow gathering that occurred over July 4th near Jackson which meant around 7 thousand hippies taking over the area which led to some positive and no so positive local interactions. While we were out hitching this girl hops off a touring motorcycle and starts commit towards us all excited. At first Spins and I were like were like who is this crazy stranger running at us in the middle of nowhere and then we realized it was Pounce who we started with on the PCT!!! She by chance was detoured on her bike trip this way and happened to see us on the side of the road, such a small world! Then about ten minutes later we got a hitch from Chris and Rebecca, a couple on their honeymoon who went SUPER out of the way to get us back to the trail. Chris worked a few summer ago in Colorado mapping the CDT with Jerry Brown whose maps I'm using. he saw the CDT on the sign and said he had to stop and pick us up. Thanks again guys you're seriously awesome!

We got back on trail and after a bit hit the pass where we met back up with Panama, Beth, and the Dogs who we haven't seen since Anaconda! Water's been scarce and the pass had water which was easy yet confusing to find due to the situation at hand. The Idaho/Montana border has been dry recently and full of sagebrush, grass, and looming wildfire smoke. We all hiked after lunch up some steep car trails heading towards what looked to be a close fire but really wasn't. We all ate sinner arohnd one of the springs which was noce because we havent seen many thruhikers really since before Darby so hanging around and shooting the shit was nice. Spins and I caught a beautifully colored sunset due to the fire smoke afterward and then camped over with Panama and Beth near a spring.
