Trans ADK Route (2015)

The Trans Adirondack Route is 235 miles and runs from the top of Adirondack Park and meanders along snowmobile tracks, roads, trails, and bushwacks through the valleys (and over some peaks) of the largest park in the United States.

This route was created in 2013 by Erik Schlimmer after envisioning a hike from blue line to blue line of the Adirondack park boundaries. He pieced together a variety of terrains which entails over fifty bodies of water, three major peaks (Whiteface, Catamount, Mt. Von Hoevenberg), and travels through five wilderness areas.

Erik has also made a thorough guidebook and set of maps (which can be found here:  http://www.transadk.com/ ). His guidebook gives detailed route instructions while also offering notes about the history of the area. I've really appreciated these notes when scanning through the guidebook because when you hike through an area and also learn the history of the area, it ties a greater understanding and significance as to what you are experiencing and what those in the past have already experienced. The set of maps are a simple paper topo copy which are perfect for a thru hike. More write-ups have been popping up around the web about this new route and can be found below:
